SUMMERWEEN! Brown Butter Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins

Brown Butter Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins (Summerween Edition)

There’s something about the first hint of pumpkin that makes me excited for cozy baking, even if it’s still 95 degrees outside. Around here, we fully embrace Summerween, where spooky movies, warm evenings, and pumpkin treats get an early start.

These brown butter pumpkin chocolate chip muffins are soft, perfectly moist, and filled with rich brown butter flavor, warm spices, and melty dark chocolate. They’re simple enough for a weekend baking session but feel special enough to enjoy with your favorite scary movie and a cozy blanket (even if the air conditioner is doing most of the work!).

Whether you’re celebrating Summerween, counting down to fall, or just looking for a wholesome homemade muffin recipe, these are guaranteed to disappear quickly.

Why You’ll Love These Muffins

  • Rich, nutty brown butter in every bite
  • Soft and fluffy with real pumpkin puree
  • Naturally sweetened with maple syrup and organic brown sugar
  • Packed with dark chocolate chips
  • Perfect for breakfast, afternoon coffee, or a Summerween movie night
  • Easy to make with simple pantry staples

Ingredients

  • ½ cup grass-fed butter
  • ¼ cup pure maple syrup
  • ¾ cup organic brown sugar (I love the Wholesome brand!)
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • 2 farm-fresh eggs
  • ¼ cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • 1¾ cups organic all-purpose flour
  • Cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, and dark chocolate chips — measure with your heart!

Instructions

  1. Brown the butter over medium heat until golden and nutty. Pour into a glass container and refrigerate for about 30 minutes until cooled.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the browned butter, maple syrup, brown sugar, vanilla, and eggs until smooth.
  3. Stir in the pumpkin puree and whole milk.
  4. Gradually mix in the flour.
  5. Add the baking powder, sea salt, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, and plenty of dark chocolate chips.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  7. Fill a greased muffin tin or line it with your favorite cute muffin liners (Halloween liners make Summerween even more fun!).
  8. Bake for 15–25 minutes, checking at the 15-minute mark. They’re done when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let cool slightly before enjoying.

Our Favorite Way to Enjoy Them

These are best served warm while the chocolate is still melty. We love making a batch on a weekend evening, putting on a classic spooky movie, and pretending fall is just around the corner. Pair one with a glass of cold milk or your favorite coffee for the perfect Summerween treat.
